New to Church?

Church 3 websize

Welcome! Whether you've just moved to the area, or have lived here all your life, we hope our website helps you to find out everything you want to know about our Church.

Where & when does the church meet?

Our Church meets every Sunday at 9:15am or 11:00am for our Sunday Services. Aim to arrive 10 minutes early to ensure you get a parking spot and seat in time for the service to start.

We meet at:
St Simon & St Jude with All Souls
Old Park Lane
Southport
Merseyside PR9 7BQ

You can see a map on our contact us page

Walking into a church service for the first time can be a daunting experience but we hope you will soon feel at home. To help you, here are few thoughts on what you can expect:

Before the service

Our services start promptly, so it is a good idea to arrive a few minutes early. This also gives you the chance to meet a few members of the church family. We don’t ‘dress up’ for church so please come as you feel comfortable.

If you are driving, there are a few spaces in our car park, but it is small so we would ask you to leave them for those who find it difficult to walk too far. There is plenty of street parking around but we would ask you to be thoughtful to our neighbours as you do that.

As you come in, you will be welcomed on the door and given a notice sheet. This contains some information on what’s happening in the coming weeks and also the details of the Bible Readings that we will be having that day.

There are no special seats, so you can sit wherever you wish. The only exception to this is that when there is a special service, like a baptism, some seats may be reserved near the front for those who are involved with the occasion.

During the service

All of our services include:

Bible Readings
We have found that this is how God has chosen to communicate with us, and how we encounter Jesus. You should find a Bible either on or in front of your seat and we will announce which page the reading is on. We'll then hear a talk aiming to help us to understand what God is saying in the Bible reading, and what that means for our lives today. T

Words of the service

All the words for our services are projected onto the screen and where they printed in bold type you are invited to join in with saying them, or simply sit and listen.

The words of the service include a time of Confession (saying sorry for the times we have not treated God & others as we should); Prayers for others (as we talk to God about the needs of the world, our nation, and those we care about); and a Creed (a short statement that outlines the Christian Faith).

Songs and Hymns

Christians have always sung. Music is a way of joining with others to express something personal and we sing to praise God. We normally stand to sing, the words are projected on to a screen, and again, you are welcome to join in or simply to listen.

Holy Communion (Lord’s Supper)

Celebrating Holy Communion is important for all Christians as it is a time when we specifically remember Jesus’ death in our place and share in the benefit of what he did for us. This takes the form of a symbolic meal in which we share bread and wine. Anyone who knows and loves the Lord Jesus is welcome to participate; those who do not wish to do so are free to simply watch or alternatively to come with others to the front of church and be prayed for by those who are leading the service.

After the service

The service usually lasts 60-75 minutes (50 minutes for an All-Age service). It normally ends with a prayer, and some music to listen to. You are very welcome to stay at this point and to meet some of the church family. After both services we serve refreshments and we would love you to stay and get to know us.

More information

We know that there’s a lot to take in and you might find it easier to take some information home to have a read. You’ll find lots of information at the back of church and on the table you pass on your way in. You might also like to make use of one of our ‘Welcome cards’. These blue cards are on the table in the entrance and if you would like to know more, please fill one in and someone will be in touch.

We look forward to welcoming you to our church soon!
